Agents Need to be
Able to Communicate in Spanish to Develop More Sales
America has always been a melting pot of cultures
and languages. Hispanics now make up the largest single minority
nationally, and in some areas of the country, they have become the
majority.
Many Hispanics are proud of their new country and
want to learn its native language, English, as soon as possible;
however, some find that learning process harder than others. This means
that you will encounter Hispanics whom are not comfortable communicating
in English. A translator will be necessary to set an appointment, and
explain your product and services. If you can get past the non English
speaker on the telephone and talk to someone who can interpret, you have
a chance to make a sale.
While most Hispanics recognize that English needs
to be spoken in the United States, they also appreciate someone who
tries to communicate with them in their own language even if it is only
to explain that an interpreter is necessary.
The Guide below is designed to establish a line of
communication with someone you believe only speaks Spanish. It is not
designed to assist in a presentation or policy delivery. You will need
a real interpreter for that. This guide is designed to be simple to
use. The English phrases are in BLUE
and the Spanish are written in BLACK phonetic syllables. The
syllables are separated by / marks, the syllable that requires emphasis
in each word is underlined. The words are separated by spaces. If you
read the phonetic syllables as they are written, properly pronounced
Spanish words will come out of your mouth.
These are the most common phrases you
should need in order to make contact with someone who can translate for
you.
